How to Root & Install Custom Recovery Image in LG Optimus 3D P920 Android Phone


LG Optimus 3D smartphone users can now root and install the custom recovery image file in your phone. The biggest advantage of doing so will empower you to install the custom ROM Firmwares and other beta firmware versions. Very soon we will be coming up with the detailed articles which will help you to install the beta or custom ROM Firmwares. Also, for all those who are having the LG Thrill too can follow this article to install the custom recovery image. The best part of this recovery installation process is that it will enable the features like Stock recovery, clockwork mod recovery and also it installs the touch based latest clockwork mod recovery.
Disclaimer: Please note that this process of firmware update is not recommended for the basic users and is only recommended for the advanced users. Also, we should not be held responsible for any damage happened to your device in any manner after applying this update.
Quick pre Requisites:
  • In the process of installing the recovery image or rooting there is a possibility that the data in the device may get deleted or corrupted. So to restore the same, you need to follow the below mentioned steps. Please note that you should not make use of LG Suite for backing up the data as it won’t be supporting the custom recovery image.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Enable the USB Debugging in your Optimus 3D from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked as shown in the below screen capture.

Ensure that you have disabled all the antivirus suites in your computer as these tools generally interrupt the process of firmware update.
Assuming that you have followed all the instructions mentioned above, you can now proceed to the next page where we will be checking out on what are the instructions to install this custom recovery image and root.
Procedure to Root & Install Custom Recovery Image in LG Optimus 3D:
  • First up you need to Download the Recovery Manager package from here to your computer and once you have downloaded, extract the same. From the extracted files, you need to open the adb files so that all the adb drivers are installed in the computer which are very important for installing the custom mod recovery. Ensure that all the files after extraction match with the one which is mentioned below.

  • Now, from the extracted files you will have to open the file named as “Recovery Manager.bat” and then connect your phone to the computer ensuring that the USB Debugging is enabled in your phone.

  • Now, you will see that on screen there will be 5 options as shown in the below screen capture. If you are on the custom ROM Firmware then you can type 1 and press enter. Similarly, you can select the corresponding option like Clock Work mod recovery, touch clockwork mod recovery.
LG Thrill Recovery
  • As soon as the device is rooted successfully and the custom recovery image is installed successfully, you need to select “Exit” option in the command prompt window. Now, to check whether the device is successfully installed with the custom recovery image you will have to boot your device in the recovery mode. Please note that once the device is rooted successfully, you then need to install the Super User app from the Google Play Store.
Note: At any point of time just in case if the process of firmware update gets stopped due to any reason, all you need to do is restart the process from the start by re inserting the battery.
